The New York Times Features UB’s Work and Research with Buffalo Public Schools

In a front-page New York Times story, “Studying Young Minds, and How to Teach Them,” the work of UB researchers Doug Clements and Julie Sarama is featured prominently.

The story describes Clements’ and Sarama’s Building Blocks program to enrich math education. Building Blocks is one of the few programs resulting from new discoveries in the field of cognitive science that has a track record. According to the New York Times story, UB’s Building Blocks program is one that could “transform teaching from the bottom up.” The story profiles the program’s use in the Buffalo Public Schools, including in the preschool program at Stanley M. Makowski Early Childhood Center.

The story was listed Monday as the Times’ most popular emailed story. A large front-page photo of children in the center accompanies the story.
