FAQ’s

How do I check the status of my application and ensure all supplemental materials have been received by my department?

Graduate admission at the University at Buffalo is a decentralized process. This means that each individual department collects and processes all application materials and makes admissions decisions for each applicant. Therefore, you will need to contact the department to which you are applying for information regarding your application status or receipt of required documents. You may find a complete list of programs and contact information at the following website here.

How can I pay my application fee?

The application fee may be paid by credit card through ePay.  After submitting the online portion of your application for formal review, you will receive a message containing the link to pay your application fee online.

If you did not receive this link we will be happy to re-send it to you. Please send your name and the program to which you are applying to gradvant@buffalo.edu.

One of my references did not receive a message requesting a letter of recommendation, can you resend it?

Your recommenders should receive an electronic request via email for the letter shortly after you have submitted the online GrAdMIT application for formal review.  Be sure that recommenders check their spam/junk email boxes as sometimes it can end up there.  The email will be from an “@buffalo.edu” address with your name in the subject line.  If they do not receive this message, your department can easily resend it to your recommender. Please contact them directly to make this request.

I entered the wrong email address/contact information for one of my references. How can I correct this?

If you have submitted your online application for formal review, you may no longer edit the information in your application form. However, if you have entered incorrect information for your reference, or if there are other fields you need to edit, you may contact your department. Your department can make the changes on your behalf.

What is the institutional code for the GRE and TOEFL scores?

Please use the code 2925 when sending your scores to the University at Buffalo.

      Hello Tiff,

When you first click on the Given/First Name and Surname/Last Name fields, it gives you a message informing the user about filling in the name exactly as it appears in government issued IDs (like passport etc.). Please be advised that the message is not an error message.
Please read the message and click OK. Then proceed with typing your name in the field. Please note that the message will show up two times – once for Surname/last Name field and the next time for First/Given name field.
      Thank you

I have applied for Fulltime MBA. Online Application status still shows official Transcript and TOEFL score not yet recieved.

Official Transcript: It is a sealed envelope from my college sent along with Financial documents(Status:Recieved).

TOEFL: I have checked back with ets and got a confirmation that TOEFL score was electronically added for SUNY at Buffalo, college code : 2925.

Please let me know if there are any steps to be taken from my side.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

As my recommender are not very comfortable with the online system can i ask them to send me the letter in a sealed envelope so that i can send it across to the admission committee?

Also, is there a maximum limit for the number of recommendation letters sent for Full Time MBA?

The paper copies are OK but they have to be signed and sealed.
School of Management will only accept two (2) letters.

      Thanks

Yes, as long as you contact the department directly. I see no reason for you to not be eligible for the application.

This is the link you need to go to in order to request or see for yourself what the program is all about.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I am in the process of applying for Masters in Information Systems course in your esteemed university as an international student. However, I have a question regarding the application process.

    1) The online application form mentions about financial responsibility wherein we need to show letters from sponsors/bank loan. Should these letters be submitted at the time of applying or once a student receives an admit.

Please let me know on this.

    Warm Regards,
    Munmun Nainani

    Dear sir or madam:
My name is Chenren Zhou, And I want to apply for MS program in Industrial Engineering for Fall 2010 session.
I have finished my online application and mailed all materials. But my status is always not reviewed. Is there any problem with my application?

The NR status is on all applicants statuses as we have a large number of students applying, thus, it takes time.

It does not mean you are being rejected, it just means we are in the process of reviewing your application.

      Thanks!

    Respected Sir/Madam,

I want to apply to UB for aerospace program. I have started my online application.
I want to know if I am required to send financial documents and information along with application or would it suffice if the above mentioned documents are sent after receiving an admit? Assembling all the documents as soon as possible would be rather difficult as the deadlines are approaching. Please help me with this query of mine.

    Thanks and regards

      Hello Supriya,

Typically all application documents (including transcripts, letters of recommendation and financial documentation) must be submitted, along with your online application, by the departmental deadline. If circumstances prevent you from submitting these documents along with your application I would recommend you contact the Aerospace Engineering department directly. They should be able to advise you on whether or not your financial documents and other information may be submitted at a later time.

    Dear Sir/Ma’am,

I am going to apply for MS prog in Industrial Engineering for Fall 2010 session. I have a prior work experience of 2 years in Tata Consultancy Services and my supervisor has agreed to give me a Recommendation. But the problem is that according to company policy, he cannot use his official email id for the recommendation. He is willing to give me a recommendation from his personal ID. I wanted to enquire whether it would be acceptable. Kindly respond at the earliest so that I may convey this to my recommender.

    Thanks and Regards

      HI there,

The personal email should not be a problem. Whatever is easier for your supervisor works for us.

      Thanks,
